Hi, I am MAYSAA - I am an accredited behaviour profiler.
I am accredited by HR Profiling Solutions and proud to use my accreditation to give parents even more understanding. Please read below the most frequently asked questions about EDISC straight from the system. Link https://www.hrprofilingsolutions.com.au/extended-disc/
What does EDISC mean? And how can it help your parenting?
What is Extended DISC®?
The Extended DISC® Behavioural Assessment is a self-assessment that measures an individual's natural (unconscious) behavioural style as well as their adjusted (conscious) style.
Practical, easy to understand and to implement, DISC assessments contain powerful insights that parents (and organisations/employees!) can use immediately to improve day to day interactions between children (and colleagues), enhance motivation, recognise natural strengths, build cooperation and detect behaviours that indicate stress.
The Extended DISC® Behavioural Assessment identifies an individual’s strengths and development areas.
The eDISC model is based on the work of psychologist William Moulton Marston, who developed a theory that categorized human behaviour into four primary personality traits, although most people do not fit into just one of these four behavioural styles but are a mixture of two or three, which allows individuals to better identify exactly where they need to adjust their style in order to better interact with other styles for their mutual benefit.
A DISC profile provides an easy-to-understand explanation of the way you tend to interact with their child. The report will describe your:
Decision-making style
Preferred means of communication
General behaviour in a workplace environment
Motivators and de-motivators
Preferred work environment
Causes of stress and signs of stress
Is DISC a Personality Test?
DISC profiling is commonly labelled a personality test. However, it is actually a type of behavioural assessment.
Although behaviour is part of what shapes our personality, they are two different entities.
The term 'personality' encompasses more than just behaviour, it also includes our values, characteristics, temperament, emotional intelligence and belief system.
DISC measures the behavioural aspect of our personality, such as how we prefer to communicate and how we react to certain situations. DISC is a valuable tool to help us understand the behavioural patterns of the people around us. But, it's not the only tool we need to fully understand personality.
Is a DISC Profile test accurate?
Extended DISC® International, the publisher of our Extended DISC® Assessments, is committed to maintaining high standards of validity and reliability.
Extended DISC® International publishes a validation study on a bi-annual basis. It shows remarkable consistency in its results and has achieved high scores in all measurements used to analyse accuracy.
The successful use of psychometric assessments globally, and the increasing demand for them in the workplace, is a testament to their versatility and accuracy in determining behaviours that have a measurable effect on job performance.
Can your DISC Profile change?
DISC profiling tests measure both your conscious (adapted) style and your unconscious (natural) style. Your unconscious/natural profile tends to remain relatively stable over time, although a significant change in your life may impact your natural style sufficiently to display differences between a current report and an earlier one.
Your conscious DISC profile tends to be more fluid and may change as your environment changes – you may need to make adjustments to your behavioural style in order to meet the requirements of a new project, a new role or a new company.
People adapt their conscious behavioural style to suit different situations or to have more effective interactions with others. We recommend taking the DISC assessment every two years to ensure you have the most accurate and recent information.
The eDISC system can be a valuable tool in the context of parenting, helping parents better understand and communicate with their children based on their unique personality traits.
By recognizing your child's dominant traits (whether they lean towards Dominance, Influence, Steadiness, or Conscientiousness), you can tailor your communication approach to better resonate with them.
Different children respond differently to various parenting approaches.
A child with a Dominant personality may appreciate clear expectations &challenges, while a child with an Influential personality may respond well to positive reinforcement and social interaction
The eDISC system helps parents identify their child's strengths and potential challenges. For example, a child with a Conscientious personality may excel in tasks requiring attention to detail but might struggle with flexibility.
Let's consider an example of how individuals with different DISC styles might respond to a common parenting situation: Setting rules for household chores:
Dominance (D): Red
A child with a Dominant personality may prefer clear, direct communication. When tasked with setting rules for chores, they may respond well to a straightforward conversation outlining expectations and consequences. They might appreciate a challenge, such as turning chores into a competition to make the process more engaging.
Influence (I): Yellow
An Influential child enjoys social interactions and positive reinforcement. For them, setting rules for chores could involve turning it into a group activity or a game. Providing praise and recognition for completed tasks can motivate them to participate enthusiastically.
Steadiness (S): Green
A child with a Steadiness personality values stability and teamwork. When discussing rules for chores, it's essential to approach them calmly and emphasize the collaborative effort. They may prefer a routine or a shared schedule that allows them to contribute consistently.
Conscientiousness (C): Blue
A Conscientious child is detail-oriented and systematic. When setting rules for chores, providing a clear, organized plan with step-by-step instructions can be effective. They might appreciate understanding the reasons behind the rules and the importance of each task.
PLEASE NOTE: While the eDISC system can offer valuable insights, it's just one tool among many that parents can use to navigate the rewarding and challenging journey of raising children.
